Texture Tests

Spaly texture tests. Variety of other texture examples can be found on the DVD. This shows a nice range of different type of Skins that splay could use .As the film *Splay* is a very dark but cute short animation we don't want anything to look to harsh looking on a young cute character, so the chalk soft innocent white look *featured top left #5 is most likely going to be the skin that splay shall have.

Back To Black And White

A batch of concepts done a while ago.These are focusing on the black and white feel,which splay has now returned to. Also more emphasis on the materials that splay and co are made from.

Test cloud

The clouds still need more definition in order to convey a lot of emotion that splay needs , so I’ll be working on this throughout the xmas holidays making sure I’m able to bring out the definition of the clouds making them look a lot more 3d rather than a flat image . I could construct it in maya making a genuine Matte paint but I feel the clouds would then loose the *painted* feel that we want . So from here I intend to;
Bring out the definition
More brushes
Increase scale of the image, make clouds seem more vast
Increase general quality of the image

Cloud reffs

.Another nice collection of various cloud styles.

IMPORTANT - READ -

Its come to my attention that I’m stuck in a rut. Being a texture/Uv artist and over all painter & not really being a cartoon style conceptual artist obviously has its limitations in this pre-production phase as my work technically doesn’t start till the modelling is done. Even more so is that I can’t be used to my potential painting cartoon concepts (it‘s not my field anymore)as I‘m rather more suited to more graphic painted non cartoon based concepts ( like splay) now . so I’m going to break my comfort zone and help WHACK’D with some modelling while I can, before the end of THIS term . While I wait for the models from SPLAY and POLISHED OFF so I can Unwrap and Stitch the UV’s & texture them. That will take a ***** long time.So In the mean time I will carry on my group work paintings for Splay & start models for whack'd.

Sky update

I can understand what Gareth is saying about monitors making everything look different & how they are important to the industry ( more importantly how everyone should be seeing the same thing) , we all knew this already.. But I’ve never noticed the problem this much!?! How crap . I’ve just realised how amazingly good my Wacom Tablet screen is . If your monitor isn’t configured properly or just plain rubbish you can't appreciate this sky at all. I wish I had a way to show everyone what I’m seeing here . This is going to be a pain in the arse.
Anyways, This picture is just a follow up of the sky I previously made but with some tweaks that Dan and Phil wanted . By all means this probably wont be the final but it shows good development .
